what we do
The central purposes of reaching out to the next generation of leadership for creating a more sustainable 21st Century are facilitating the cross-generational sharing of mutual experiences and promoting intense collaborative networking among the emerging leaders. It is cross-generational in the sense of imparting the good lessons of the bad experience of much of the 20th Century on major unsolved consequences of abrupt climate change, the dislocation between the global economy and respect for the health of the Planet, the unmet Millennium Development Goals in the areas of environmental sustainability, gender equality, and infant and maternal mortality in the developing world, and the continuing strive for women empowerment.
Through capacity building, project implementation, knowledge sharing and collaborative management, the Fellows from over twenty-five countries are contributing to ES’s vision. They are establishing knowledge sharing networks within their own countries and across boundaries through the use of social media, peer exchanges and an electronic journal. In addition, the global network that ES facilitates can link Orange County philanthropists, and local businesses eager to support local initiatives on the ground.
Currently, the efforts of the Empowering Sustainability group revolve around five main objectives:
(1) capacity building
(2) project implementation
(3) collaborative management
(4) knowledge sharing
(5) internal institutional development
